Dr. Matt McClure

DO, UNT Health Science Center

Born and raised in Texas with a lifelong passion for science and nature, Matt's love of the water brought him to the “sparkling city by the sea”. A short 3 year stent in NY with his wife opened their eyes to oysters and sparked the dream. Once back in Texas, and with careers in medicine underway, they began to put the pieces together to make a dream a reality. A pandemic helped fan the flames of throwing caution to the wind and a friendship with like-minded adventurers helped turn their dream of growing the best tasting Texas oysters into a reality!

Dr. Trenten Martinez

DO, UNT Health Science Center

Trent is the oldest in the seventh generation of a storied south Texas ranching family. Raised throughout the country due to his father's work, Trent learned the value of effort and hard work as a child, applying those principles to everything he did, regardless of location. Upon graduation from high school, Trent played collegiate baseball in Kansas, where he met his wife Vickie. They soon married and relocated to Corpus Christi, where he continued to play baseball for Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Shortly after his athletic career came to a close, Trent began scribing for Dr. Lonnie Schwirtlich, and soon knew he wanted to practice medicine. He set out to Fort Worth to study medicine, and quickly became friends with another student, Matt McClure. Trent moved back to Corpus after completing residency in Arizona, and reconnected with Matt. During the 2020 COVID pandemic, the two realized they both felt disconnected from the natural world around them and longed to spend more time outside. A few years passed, but eventually Matt approached Trent in hopes that he would be willing to become a partner in a dream; Third Coast Oysters. Trent was sold on the idea. After several meetings, much planning, and a few sleepless nights, Trent helped make Third Coast into what it is today. In Trent's opinion, the future for Third Coast Oysters simply reflects life advice he's carried with him from his great-grandfather, Bob Reagan: "Take a deep seat, and a far away look."

Robert Martinez

BS Penn State

Bertie hails from Live Oak County, Texas, raised on hard work and long days. Before oyster farming, he was a golf course superintendent, managing land and water and learning the value of discipline, timing, and doing things right when no one’s watching. Bertie was at a crossroads in his career when his brother called and asked if he wanted to start an oyster farm. He didn’t overthink it. Three weeks later, Bertie was back in Texas, all in, learning the bay and building the operation from the ground up. In his own words, Bertie will be the first to tell you, "This farm is about grit, stewardship, and pride in Texas waters. We’re here to grow great oysters, take care of the bay, and build something that lasts."
